Hi, my name is Jennifer Plotnek, and I'm the Lead Behavior Coach for Retrofit.
Today I'd like to talk to you about a common fear that people have, and that's the fear of getting on the scale. I can't tell you about how many people I work with who talk to me about their struggles and their anxiety around getting on the scale.
The scale can make or break their day. It can lead them to want to throw in the towel. What I try to tell people is to remember that the numbers on the scale are just numbers. They don't define who you are. They don't necessarily even show how hard you're working. What I want them to remember is that they need to focus on other measures of success, such as the way their clothes are fitting or if they notice they have more energy or they're sleeping better.
All the studies show that people who focus exclusively on the numbers on the scale have more difficulty maintaining their weight long term.
So just remember, at the end of the day, the scale is just one source of information. It doesn't say who you are.
