Hi. My name is Amy Margulies, Lead Registered Dietician with Retrofit. Today, I wanted to talk to you about fall food. In the summertime, when we're looking for comfort, we're usually looking for comfort in terms of cooling off. So it's very easy to grab things like a salad or a fruit smoothie, especially when you're pressed for time and you're running through an airport. Those are the kinds of food in the summertime that we like to grab.
Come fall, when we're looking for comfort, we're usually looking to warm ourselves up or to just make ourselves feel better. So we grab things like creamy soups and stews and things with lots of cheese, like pizza. So we're not just grabbing comfort foods, we're grabbing foods with hundreds of extra calories and lots of extra grams of fat. So, even in the fall season, try to still think summer. Think sunshine, think warmth and think of cooling-off foods. Think of salads still, think of a cold turkey sandwich with lots of vegetables and mustard on whole-grain bread, instead of that hot panini with the cheese dripping off; which I know tastes really good, but you're getting lots of extra fat and lots of extra calories.
So think cool and think light, even in the fall season.
